The basic dry pastel mixture is material called PEMZA, a mineral with a base of volcanic glass. Other components, added in small amounts, are clear micro-granulated natural materials like kaolin and carbonate of calcium. These additives bind the primary mixture in which the coloured pigments are mixed.
