- Beautiful and functional Review by Julie
Since it arrived I have carried this notebook with me constantly. I love the feel, the look and the smell of it. I have two inserts - the notebook and a diary insert both fit comfortably into the cover; so I can jot down anything I need to remember and keep on top of my calendar in one package.
It is one of life's little indulgences that feels luxurious and special every time you open it.
The paper in the refills is lovely to write on - my fountain pen glides over it and does not feather or bleed through. (Posted on 26/04/2017)
- An intensely charismatic notebook system – you know you want one! But… Review by Yvonne
This is one of those products that attracts evangelists and on the strength of their enthusiasm and what I had seen online (these notebooks seem to inspire tremendous creativity in their adherents) I found myself, well, lusting after one.
In the end I succumbed, even though I also had serious reservations. These were as follows: 1. the actual cover is minimalist to the extreme, just a sturdy unfinished leather wrap (not my usual style), and doesn't really provide great protection for the contents, especially if you add more than two inserts, and 2. I was concerned the little metal toggle at the top of the spine would damage desk surfaces if I wasn't careful when writing in it.
I think my reservations were justified and this is not a notebook that I would carry *everywhere* and use for everything (I prefer a more compact pocket-size Moleskine of some kind for that). But as a notebook that I keep and use at home and enjoy for its particular aesthetic pleasures, it's been a quiet success. And certainly the inserts and paper are of a superior quality – very enjoyable to use and fountain pen friendly.
I have used the plain insert for practising Zentangles and similar, an activity which seems to fit the overall aesthetic of the notebook. And I use the grid notebook for an occasional journal. I would also recommend the sketchbook insert, which is up to taking light washes/aquarelles if you're careful. Some of the other accessories that I've seen or used are similarly of beautiful quality and cleverly designed.
My conclusion: the Midori Traveler's Notebook that has a very definite charisma that makes you want to own it, but it's not necessarily well-suited to every personal style or context. I've found a use for mine and am enjoying its good qualities, but if I could step back in time with the 20/20 vision, I might not necessarily have made this purchase. It's something I think I could admire without needing to own. (Posted on 20/07/2015)
- Quality notebook not just for travelers Review by Cameron
I initially had reservations due to narrower than I'm used to dimensions but the quality more than won me over, especially that intoxicating smell of leather. Mmmm.
The included plain refill is lovely and smooth + fountain pen friendly (slight show-through but no bleed-through or feathering), plus there are plenty of alternatives and accessories available. I've been using mine as a journal.
Bonus Tip: Actually comes with '2' extra elastic closures - just remove the one from the beautiful packaging and save for later (may require slight tightening/shortening) (Posted on 10/07/2015)
